Seit 2012 ist die alle zwei Jahre stattfindende „Valley Meeting“-Reihe – ein einzigartiges internationales wissenschaftliches Treffen, das von der Familie Poincilit ins Leben gerufen wurde, um Wissenschaftler, Kliniker und Familienangehörige von NP-C-Patienten in einem informellen, vertraulichen Rahmen zusammenzubringen – ein fester Bestandteil im Kalender der weltweiten Gemeinschaft für Niemann-Pick-Krankheit Typ C (NP-C). Nach dem „Loire Valley Meeting“ (LVM, das in zwei französischen Schlössern stattfand) und dem „Reuss-Valley Meeting“ (RVM, auf einem Bauernhof in der Schweiz) zog die Veranstaltungsreihe in diesem Jahr in das historische Ambiente des Worcester College in Oxford um, wo das „Thames Valley Meeting“ (TVM) abgehalten wurde.

Erstmals wurde die Organisation des Treffens von der Familie Poincilit an die breitere NP-C-Gemeinschaft übergeben – in der Hoffnung und Zuversicht, dass die Reihe auch in den kommenden Jahren fortgesetzt werden kann.

Die Finanzierung erfolgte weiterhin durch Patientenorganisationen – in diesem Jahr durch Niemann-Pick UK (NPUK), NPSuisse und die Niemann-Pick-Selbsthilfegruppe –, und die Organisation fand im Auftrag der International Niemann-Pick Disease Alliance (INPDA) sowie unabhängig von der Industrie statt.

Since 2012, the bi-annual Valley Meeting series – a unique international scientific gathering created by the Poincilit family to bring together scientists, clinicians and NP-C family members in an informal, off-the-record setting – has been a fixed point on the global Niemann-Pick disease type C (NP-C) community’s calendar. After the Loire Valley Meeting (LVM, held in two French castles) and the Reuss-Valley Meeting (RVM, held on a farm in Switzerland), the series this year moved to the historic surroundings of Worcester College, Oxford, for the Thames Valley Meeting (TVM).

For the first time, organization of the meeting was handed over from the Poincilit family to the broader NP-C community, in the hope and confidence that the series can be continued for years to come.

The meeting continued to be funded by patient advocacy groups, this year Niemann-Pick UK (NPUK), NPSuisse and the Niemann-Pick Selbsthilfegruppe, and was organized on behalf of the International Niemann-Pick Disease Alliance (INPDA), independent of industry.
